Course overview
The Master of Arts, Literature and Civilizations offers four tracks, including the Cinema track. These tracks prepares students with a strong literary, artistic, and cultural knowledge, methodology,an ability to contextualize and interpret works, and proficiency in creative and communication processes, especially through the use of new technologies.
In addition to the seminars on aesthetics and cultural history, the theater or cinema track includes 2 professionalizing options : either writing/creation or archives (internship, meetings with professionals, and intelligent digitization for the archives option). These options enable students to gain familiarity with specific professional areas in the performing arts. A dissertation must be written at the end of year 1 and the end of year 2.

Entry requirements
Access to the first year of the master's degree is selective, and the admission criteria and capacity are defined by the university.
Recommended undergraduate background : Performing Arts, Literature.
Selection methods include the examination of an application file (assessing the quality of the applicant's previous academic record, motivation, and resume), and a mandatory interview for those interested in the Archives option.
Tuition fees
Administrative registration includes the payment of the Student and Campus Life Contribution as well as registration fees. More detiails can be found on the training portal.

Internships and placements
The Performing Arts Archives option enables students to acquiant themselves with archival collections, understand the intricacies of intelligent digitization for preserving performing arts materials, and develop skills in database construction. In addition to the seminars shared with the research option, students will be required to spend four days in various partner archival institutions of this option (IMEC, Inathèque, BnF, Institut de la Marionnette, Fondation Pathé-Seydoux...) and complete a 15-day internship at one of these institutions in both year 1 and year 2.
Coursework and assessment
Validation of years is determined by exams or through assessments based on the teacher discretion.
The curriculum is organised by semesters. Each semester comprises several teaching units.
On the one hand, compensation is structured throughout the semester without eliminating grades, and it is based on the overall average of the marks obtained in various teaching units, weighted by coefficients. On the other hand, it is organized between the two semesters.
In order to pass the semester, the student must achieve an overall average grade of at least 10 out of 20. If the student does not pass the semester, they will, however, retain credit for the teaching units in which they have achieved a grade of at least 10 out of 20.
Study abroad
The Performing Arts Department aims to foster ongoing collaboration with numerous departments in Europe and across the globe (Montreal, Krakow, Bologna, Turin, Brussels...) for Erasmus+ programs. We frequently host foreign artists and professors for masterclasses and conferences.
Learning outcome
Culture, creation, and communication are the common basis of of the four tracks of the Master of Arts, Literature, and Civilizations.
The knowledge and skills expected, whether for the pursuit of doctoral studies or for entry into professional life, are :
- interpreting and putting into perspective literary and artistic works
- producing critical or creative works
- writing, arguing, analyzing and using information
- using new technologies for documentation, communication, archive preservation
- adapting to the professional world thanks to professionalizing options
- acquiring foreign language skills (validation of these skills through CLES)

The holder of this certification can perform the following activities :
- Assuming responsibility for cultural structures
- Acting as a culrural mediator, public relations specialist, or reviewer
