Master's degree Innovation, Company, and Society Track Valorisation of Biotechnological Innovations
Course overview
You’re interested in law, intellectual property, contracts? You wish to use your skills in law for biotechnologies, health, and innovation? With the Valorisation of biotechnological innovations programme of the Innovation, company and society master’s degree, you can specialise both in science and law.
This master’s is two-year full-time programme who trains future specialists in valorising and innovating for biotechnologies and medicine. The curriculum focuses on:
- Management of innovation and valorisation applied to biotechnologies
- Interaction between scientific research and industrial applications (spreading and protecting knowledge, industrialisation and commercial applications)

This master’s programme is jointly organised by the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Law, Economics and Social Administration and Public Administration. As such, several courses are taught by law professors, allowing you to acquire the necessary skills in law.

Entry requirements
To enter this master’s programme, you should
- Be able to work with a team, be autonomous and organised, be in charge of a project
- Graduate from a scientific bachelor's in Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Life and Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Sciences
- Or graduate from a law bachelor's in Law or Economics and Social Administration
Language proficiency requirements
Minimum French proficiency level: C1
Specific conditions
If you successfully completed Year 1 of this master's, you will enter Year 2 automatically.
If you completed Year 1 of another course, such as in:
- Economy
- Management
You can apply in Year of this master's.
Course structure
Courses
- Take place on the campus 1 (Caen), in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Caen Normandy.
- Amount to 25 hours a week.
- Are completed by internships.

Internships and placements
The Innovation, Company and Society master’ programme includes 2 internships, taking place in the 2 semesters of Year 2:
- 3rd semester: discovery of the professional environment (1 month)
- 4th semester: end-of-studies internship (6 months)
Coursework and assessment
The course lasts 2 years and is divided in 6 semesters, each comprising several courses units. Examinations are held at the end of each semester and are graded on a scale from 0 to 20, 20 being the best grade. Grade compensation is organized without eliminatory marks and on the basis of the general average obtained in every course unit:
- Over each semester
- Over the 2 semesters of year 1
The 2 semesters do not compensate each other in year 2.
To successfully complete a semester, you must have an average mark of at least 10 points out of 20. If you have not completed your semester, you can retake the courses units you failed; you do not have to retake the courses in which you have obtained at least 10 points out of 20.

Further study
Once you’ve obtained your master’s, you can pursue various career opportunities. Depending on the topic of your master’s thesis, you can also pursue doctoral studies, in the University of Caen Normandy or in specialised structures such as the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies of the University of Strasbourg.
