This three-year full-time programme shares its first two years with the Bachelor’s in Management. As such, even if the programme focuses on economics, you will also acquire basic know-how in management. With this multidisciplinary programme, you will develop new perspectives and ways of thinking to specialise in the various fields of economy and work in ever-changing careers.

To enter this bachelor’s, you should have obtained a high school diploma (equivalent of the French baccalaureate) with a major in Mathematics.

Course structure
Courses
- Take place on site at Campus 1 of the University of Caen Normandy
- Amount to 21 hours per week, 500 hours per year
- Are completed by internships
Course units
The first two years rely on a shared curriculum (92%) between the bachelors in Economics and Management. As a student of the Economics programme, you will attend theoretical courses in:
- Economics (microeconomy and macroeconomy)
- Management (introduction to management, management practices)
And other courses such as:
- Applied quantitative methods
- Demographics
- History of economics
- Development economics, economic justice, environmental economics
Each year, you will also attend courses conveying transversal skills:
- Statistics and mathematics applied to economy
- Productivity software and databases
- Economic English
- Law (labour law, tax law)
- Preparatory courses to professional integration (communication, introduction to research and one optional course per year)
Besides, from Year 1 on, you will have to choose among three optional courses:
- Economics
- Geography
- Health (to pursue medical studies)
Then, in Year 3, courses will focus on economics:
- Economic conditions, growth and development
- Labour economics and public economics
- Game theory and uncertainty in economics
- International trade and international finance
- Financial markets and industrial economy
Internships and placements
The bachelor’s programme includes optional internships: each year, you can do an internship between 2 and 4 weeks in any company related to economy or management, in France or abroad.
Every internship will be evaluated through a detailed written report and an oral presentation of this report, and can earn you a bonus grade.
Coursework and assessment
The course lasts 3 years and is divided in 6 semesters, each comprising several courses units. Examinations are held at the end of each semester and are graded on a scale from 0 to 20, 20 being the best grade. Grade compensation is organized without eliminatory marks and on the basis of the general average obtained in every course unit:
- Over each semester
- Over the 2 semesters of the same year
To successfully complete a semester, you must have an average mark of at least 10 points out of 20. If you have not completed your semester, you can retake the courses units you failed; you do not have to retake the courses in which you have obtained at least 10 points out of 20.

Study abroad
You wish to go abroad during you bachelor’s programme? Thanks to the Erasmus exchange programme, you can do an internship or study abroad (all resources in French), in Europe or in any other country in the world!
Learning outcome
By the end of this course, you will be able to
- Use main concepts and tools of economic analysis, on both microeconomic and macroeconomic scales
- Use methods and tools of economy (both qualitative and quantitative) and management, as well as implement them in any type of structure
- Carry out an empirical analysis based on a survey or a database, through the production and interpretation of statistics, as well as use the appropriate software
- Research, understand and analyse information relevant to economy or management and communicate your conclusions in French and in English (if possible, in German or Spanish)
- Identify stakes of economic decisions in their social, historical, and cultural environment
- Understand various actions for economic policy

The bachelor’s in Economics is a general programme paving the way for studies in:

- Statistics and Econometrics
Once you’ve obtained your bachelor’s degree, you can pursue studies in master’s in Economics (such as in the Faculty of Economics, Business Management, Geography and Land Settlement) or in Management schools (such as the IAE Caen).
Would you like to change programme any time during your bachelor’s? You can do so at various times during your studies:
After obtaining Year 1, you can pursue Year 2 either in
- Economics
- Management
After you’ve obtained Year 2, you can pursue Year 3 either in:
- Economics
- Management, and specialise either in Operational Management, in Entrepreneurship and Business Development, or in the International Programme
- Geography, if you’ve attended the optional course in Geography during Year 1 and Year 2

Careers
The bachelor’s degree is the first step to pursue careers in economics. According to our last surveys, 8 students out of 10 went further with their studies after graduating from their bachelor’s degree. Hence your career will depend on your specialisation and the diploma you pursue after your bachelor’s.
As such, you will have opportunities within private companies of any field or size, public or para-public organisations, associations… With an expertise in economics, you will be able to work in any field, notably:
